County gets second DUI deputy

Lauderdale County Sheriff Billy Sollie said Thursday a $70,000 federal grant will pay for the addition of a deputy to enforce laws against driving under the influence of alcohol.
Sollie said his department applied for the grant six weeks ago from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety. He said the grant was awarded this week.
In fiscal year 2001, Sollie said, the department's one DUI deputy, David Rosenbaum, made 305 DUI arrests.
Sollie said the bulk of the DUI deputy's responsibility is dealing with impaired individuals who are often belligerent, combative and sometimes sick.
