The driver of a 1992 Chevy pickup involved in a traffic accident Sunday night on Interstate 20 was in serious condition today at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, said hospital spokesman Ann Weddington.
Staff Sgt. Ronnie Carter of the Mississippi Highway Patrol said 85-year-old Clifton Thompson of Newton was apparently driving eastbound in the westbound lane just east of Chunky when his truck collided with a 2002 Chevy Malibu carrying four passengers.
The Malibu's occupants were admitted to Riley Hospital. They are: Gladys Hernandez, 52, stable condition; Gabriela Mesia, 28, stable condition; Magaly Montalbo, 20, stable in the intensive care unit; and Fiorella Sosa, 6, status unavailable.
