For two sets of sisters from Tupelo, the track and field events on Saturday meant doing their best and enjoying the competition.
This year's trip to the State Games of Mississippi was the second for Lizzie and Stewart Brevard. Last year Lizzie, 10, won the silver medal in the 4×100 relay, while the 13-year-old Stewart, won the bronze in the high jump.
Lizzie won a gold and silver medal on Saturday while Stewart won two gold medals and a bronze. Both enjoyed the exercise and competition.
Stewart said there was some competition with her sister, but it was mostly for fun.
Along with the Brevards were Natalie and Maria Holland. Natalie, 13, won two gold medals in 2001 and Maria, 11, won a gold and a silver. On Saturday, Natalie won four medals a gold and three silver. Maria won three a gold and two bronze.
