Meridian Relay for Life raises more than $395,000

Organizers of the Lauderdale County Relay for Life campaign reported Saturday they raised $395,419 for the American Cancer Society this year, just shy of last year's record-breaking $400,000.
The money is used by the American Cancer Society for research, education and services for cancer patients.
The following awards were presented to Relay for Life teams for their fund-raising efforts during the annual event Friday night and Saturday morning at Meridian High School's Ray Stadium:
Non-Corporate Division Awards for a combination of teams raising the most money Northcrest Baptist Church, $24,687, first place; First Baptist Church, $9,062, second place; and Highland Baptist Church, $8,635, third place.
Corporate Division Awards for combination of teams raising the most money Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, $28,221, first place; Rush Foundation Hospital, $19,224, second place; and Weems Mental Health, $14,100, third place.
Teams raising the most money Northcrest Baptist Church Team 3, $18,403, first place; Mississippi Power Co., $14,070, second place; and Anderson Nursing Administration, $13,423, third place.
Individual raising the most money Ann Alexander, Northcrest Baptist Church, $5,501, first place; Bobby Ingram, Long Distribution, $4,000, second place; and Martha Shaulis, Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, $3,720, third place.
