County schools to auction property

Calculators, computers and televisions are among hundreds of Lauderdale County School surplus items that will be sold in an auction Saturday.
County workers have spent the last three months gathering the items for the school district's first surplus auction in more than 10 years. The items are from the county school district's offices and its four schools.
Besides calculators, computers and TVs, other goods for sale include typewriters, washing machines, sewing machines, vehicles and more than 10 school buses.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for the auction at the Lauderdale County School Operation Facility, 5701 Water Tower Road. People can preview items from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. today at the site.
Local auctioneers Beth Land and Mary Lou Martin will oversee the action and receive a 25 percent share of the money raised. The county school district will put the rest into its general fund.
Jane Sims, a clerk for the Lauderdale County school district, said she and others have been working since February to collect the items and prepare them for the sale.
Sims said the workers at the operations building have been instrumental in preparing for the auction.
