DEKALB Hits were precious and few in the first game of the best-of-three series between Heidelberg Academy and Kemper Academy in the second round of the Mississippi Private School Association's Academy A state baseball playoffs Tuesday afternoon. Heidelberg won the contest 5-1. Heidelberg's Matt Culberson and Kemper's Bo Harper both had good outings on the mound. Culberson (7-1) struck out eight and walked two in a three-hit complete-game effort. Harper allowed only two hits in his six innings, but was haunted by six walks. He struck out two and picked off a pair of Rebel baserunners.
The Lamar School Raiders came into the Academy AAA South State Championship with an undefeated record. So it was no surprise that the host Raiders obliterated the field Tuesday winning by 44 strokes over second place Central by a tally of 305 to 351 at Briarwood Country Club. Reid Davis finished up his prep career at the course with a 75, good for medalist honors. He shot a 36 on the front nine and a 39 on the back.

Kino Mosley got some extra incentive from his family Thursday afternoon. Mosley, a freshman long jumper at Meridian Community College, looked up in the stands at MCC's track and saw his grandmother watching him in the NJCAA Region 23 meet. He then promptly sprinted down the runway and long-jumped a career-best. Mosley leaped 24' 4 1/2 " to claim the Region 23 long jump title. In the process, he gave the Eagles a boost in the field event en route to the Eagles' first Region 23 outdoor championship.
Host Simpson Academy defeated the Lamar High Raiders 10-0 Thursday to claim the Mississippi Private School Association Academy 3-AAA prep baseball title. Earlier in the afternoon, the Raiders defeated Manchester Academy 9-7 to guarantee a berth in the Class AAA South State playoffs. In the loss to Simpson, Lamar was outhit 8-4. However, the Raiders made six errors to none for Simpson. Larkin Honea, 11-0, picked up the win for 23-2 Simpson. Will Jones, 0-1, took the loss for 18-11 Lamar.

If there were any questions left about Meridian High's offense this season, the Wildcats answered them Friday night. The Wildcats pounded out 15 hits, hammered three home runs, and stole eight bases last night in a 13-0 rout of homestanding Northeast Lauderdale. On Tuesday, MHS clinched the Division 5-5A title, and earned the right to host a first-round playoff game next week. The Wildcats will wrap up their regular season against Neshoba Central, one of the teams to defeat Meridian this season.

Charlotte Heidelberg
When Charlotte Heidelberg next steps on the tennis court for a competitive match, it will be at the National Junior College Athletic Association's National Women's Tennis Tournament.
The tournament will begin this weekend at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Heidelberg, who went 13-1 in the regular season, won the No. 1 womens singles title at the Region 23 Tournament at the Northeast Tennis Center.
The Pascagoula freshman loves playing for MCC.
Heidelberg plays with Megan Chivas in No. 1 doubles.
