Meridian High boys take second, girls third in track regionals

The Meridian High School boys track team finished second in the regional track and field meet Saturday at Meridian Community College.
The Wildcats ended the meet with a total of 123 points. Brandon, Meridian, Natchez, Hattiesburg, Petal, Oak Grove, Wayne County and Hancock competed in the meet.
The boys that finished in fourth place or better will move on to compete in the 5A South State track meet that will be hosted by Gulfport High School next Saturday.
Quarius Hodges finished second in the shot put competition. Cebran Finely placed third in the discus while Kevin Moore finished fourth place in the triple jump.
Germaine Winfield was third in the pole vault while James Taylor finished fourth in the pole vault and 400 meter dash. Peter Davidson finished first in the 3200 meter run, second in the 1600 meter and third place in the 800 meters.
Jeremy Alford won the 1600 meter race, second place in the 3200 meter run and third place in 800 meters. Sean Rogers won the 300 meter hurdles.
DeAngelo Jones, Fred Patton, Moore and Cordae Campbell placed third place in the 4×100 meter relay while Taylor, Rogers, Alford and Davidson took third in the 4×400 relay.
The Lady Wildcats placed third as they racked up 90 points. Natchez took first place with 159 points, followed by Brandon (102), Meridian, Hattiesburg (84), and Oak Grove (81).
Meridian got first places from Regina Williams in the high jump (5 feet) and Ashley Curry in the shot put (36 feet, 7 inches).
Amelia Hudson was second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.15.
Curry placed third in the discus with a toss of 103 feet, 2 inches.
Catesha Young was third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.63 seconds.
The Lady Wildcats also placed third in the 400, 800, and 1,600 meter relays. the 400 had a time of 51.93 seconds, while the 800 came in at 1:48.50.
