Four local high schools braved the cold weather Monday morning, to compete in the Lauderdale County Invitational Golf Tournament at Lakeview Golf Course.
The West Lauderdale Knights won the match with an impressive round of 309. The Northeast Lauderdale Trojans were 73 stokes behind with a 382. Clarkdale took fourth place with a round of 393. Southeast Lauderdale had two players disqualified for not finishing the tournament and as a result the Tigers were disqualified from the tournament. Matt Smith, a senior at West Lauderdale took medalist honors with a fine three over par round of 73. "I had a rough day with my irons and driver," Smith said. "My short game kept me in the tournament today." This was the first time for Smith to win medalist honors in the Lauderdale County time since he has been playing for the Knights.
The Bulldogs were paced by Jared Culpepper with a round of 89, while William Clinton followed up with a round of 99. Scott Dawkins shot 101, while Eric Durham ended up with a 104. Brian Tomerlin was disqualified from the tournament, for not turning in a score card.
The SEL Tigers were disqualified, but three golfers did get around the course. Matt Singley led the Tigers with a score of 105, while Ragan Carlisle carded a 107. Step Landrum added a 112 for the Tigers. Travis Riley and Joey Shelton were disqualified, for not finishing the tournament. The Knights move to 2-0 on the year, and they will host the West Lauderdale Invitational March, 21 at Briarwood County Club.
Northeast fell to 0-2 on the year and it will be in action again next week when it travels to Patrick Farm to tangle with Pearl. The Bulldogs and the Tigers of Southeast fell to 0-2.
