Annual Halloween Scotch Doubles event was enjoyable

A busy month of bowling comes to a close this week as we turn our attention to the holiday months ahead. This past weekend saw the Annual Halloween Scotch Doubles Tournament. This YABA fund raiser is always an enjoyable event and this year's tournament was no different. We will have final results as well as the winner of the 27" color TV for you next week. Congratulations to Candy Blackmon and Leon Fike for putting on another outstanding weekend of fun.
As we look ahead to November, waiting in the wings is the 13th Annual Mississippi State Mixed Tournament, which will run the first three weekends of the month at McComb Bowling Center. Although reserved entries have already closed, lanes are still available for each shift. You still have time to get your teams and doubles entries in. But, remember, the earlier you turn in your entry the better chance you have of getting the dates and times you want. Teams may consist of any combination of men and women. Doubles must have one man and one woman. Pick your entry form up at either Dixie Bowl or McCain Lanes.
Also on tap is the 21st Annual Mississippi State Seniors Tournament, which will be held at Dixie Bowl the first two weekends in December. This is a Singles, Doubles and All-Events tournament open to all ABC members 50-and-above. The Nov. 1 entry closing date is just two days away. Bowlers in five separate age categories will compete, with the winner in each division except Class E (50-54) receiving a paid entry to the National Seniors Tournament to be held in Milwaukee. We are asking all eligible local bowlers to participate in this event and help make it a success.
In local action this week, Andrew Clayton led all scorers by posting a 279 game/757 series during action in the Hucklebuck league on Monday night. The high game for the week belonged to Leon Fike, who spared in the first frame, then strung 11 straight strikes for a 290. Also making their mark this week were Clark Ramsey with a 280, while Chuck Gray found the zone for a game of 278. Congratulations to Glenn Scott on his first career 600 series. Glenn posted a nice 625 set in the Wednesday Night Mixed League.
Amy Davis topped all ladies this week with an outstanding performance in the Wednesday Night Mixed league. Amy posted scores of 257, 216 and 235 to lead the gals with a big 708 series. Other ladies with big numbers included Jenny Taylor (232 game), and Shirley Gaines (226 game/627 series). Congratulations go out to Sarah Evans who completed the rare Triplicate with three identical games in Dixie Belles action.
Finally, in last week's column I failed to recognize the All-Event winners in the recently completed City Mixed Tournament. Pam McCarty took the crown for the ladies and Chuck Gray led the guys in that category. My apologies to both bowlers and Congratulations to each of you
