Lauderdale County football &softball players of the week

Football
West Lauderdale – Senior defensive back Van Wilson played a solid game on defense for the Knights holding the visiting Oilers to a 31-0 shutout. He laid down an extremely hard hit on Heidelberg's quarterback knocking his helmet off.
Meridian High – Senior linebacker C.C. Finley is currently the Wildcats leading tackler. "He tried to show some leadership Friday night," said head coach Bill Sartin.
Northeast – Junior fullback Marcus Betts scored at least three times in the Trojan's 46-50 loss Friday night. "He showed good leadership," said head coach Andy Stevens. "He's gonna be a good prospect in the future."
Lamar – Sophomore quarterback Drew Moffett play an exceptional game Friday night with 15 carries for 127 yards along with 8-13 passing for 145 yards and three touchdowns overall. He also ran the two point conversion that won the game in overtime. "He was one of a lot of players that made big plays Friday night," said head coach Mac Barnes.
Clarkdale – Junior defensive end Adam Box had an impressive defensive game Friday night including six tackles with three for losses. He also had one fumble recovery. "He's one of our smartest players," said head coach Bubba Hathorn.
Southeast – Senior quarterback Ben Reed scored both of Southeast's touchdowns Friday night from eleven yard rushes. He racked up 85 yards rushing total. "He's our offensive leader," said head coach Dwane Taylor.
Softball
West Lauderdale – Junior left fielder Courtney Godwin went 12-15 for the week including three homers. "She made some great catches," said head coach Jerry Boatner. "She's a great worker with a great attitude."
Northeast – Junior short stop Raliegh Odom is batting an exciting .700 for the year while holding the team lead for RBI's. "She's a leader by example," said head coach Chris Harper.
Meridian High – Junior catcher Valerie Sherman was 6-9 for the week including a big clutch hit in last week's Brandon game. "We've needed someone to step up and she came through for us," said head coach Thad George.
Clarkdale – Sophomore short stop Megan Potate played a key role in the Bulldog's recent district win over Enterprise. She has been leading the defense. "She's really been taking charge on defense," said head coach Rick Roberson.
Southeast – Eighth grade third baseman Heather Ward stands at 5-12 at the plate for the week while carrying a .417 batting average. "She played a solid third base for us against Lawrence County," said head coach Ryan Miller. "She's a good kid who works hard."
