Mississippi doing well in national high school rodeo

Brothers Josh and Daniel Napp had their first go-rounds Tuesday in the National High School Finals Rodeo being held in Springfield, Ill. this week.
Josh Napp posted a disappointing 19.881 in steer wrestling Tuesday morning, well behind first round leader Joe Headley (4.048) of Washington.
Daniel Napp will get his first shot in steer wrestling tonight at 7 p.m.
Daniel, a recent graduate of Enterprise High School, posted a 15.063 Tuesday night in calf roping, good enough for eighth place. A.J. Ormond of Oklahoma leads with a time of 11.07.
The Napp brothers returned to the ring this morning at 9 a.m. in the team roping competition.
Meanwhile, some other local high school cowboys and cowgirls are also doing well at the NHSFR.
Tyler Pearson of Louisville is in fourth place in the cutting competition with 143 points, just three points behind leader Doug Smith of Nebraska.
Union's Zan Tillman stands in fifth place with 142 points in the cutting competition.
In girls cutting, Holly McBeth, also from Union, is tied for seventh with 141 points.
Holly Pyles of Crystal Springs is second in breakaway roping after a time of 2.86, just behind leader Jackie Hobbs (2.432) of Oklahoma.
Overall, Mississippi is doing very well among the 37 states, three Canadian provinces and Australia. The Magnolia State is in seventh place with 610 points, while Texas leads the competition with 966.66.
The finals are set for Sunday.
