MAD about swimming

Meridian's swim team known as the Meridian Aquatic Dogfish outdistanced all of the other teams on its way to winning the Meridian Invitational Swim Meet last weekend at Highland Park. Team members deserve congratulations not only for the time and effort they put into the meet, but also for the positive attention they generated for their town.
Athletics have always been important in Meridian. Thousands of children have been been involved over the years with a variety of organized sports activities, not to mention regular pick-up games and other informal unorganized events.
State Games comes to mind, mentioned by Tourism Bureau director Allison Beasley the other day as the largest single attraction here each year. These sorts of attractions mean big tourism dollars for the city, county and surrounding area.
But for this particular weekend, many in Meridian put aside their interest in other sports long enough to watch a team of outstanding swimmers show what they can do. Every team member is an asset to our community.
Good job.
