Oakland Heights Elementary teacher Marsha Smith has been selected as a $200 classroom grant recipient from BellSouth Pioneers.
BellSouth Pioneers and the Mississippi Department of Education have partnered to develop "Where's the BellSouth truck?" The web site is an interactive way for fourth grade students to learn about Mississippi history while familiarizing themselves with computers and the Internet.
Web site www.bellsouthmspioneers.org was launched in September. Students click on the truck featured on the site, which will be in a different region of the state about every three weeks. So far the truck has traveled to Biloxi, Corinth, Greenville, Kosciusko, Macon, Port Gibson and Tupelo.
Facts displayed on the site include the history, geography, civics, economics, famous citizens and attractions for each town.
Classroom, teacher and individual student prizes are awarded after each lesson. Students and teachers qualify for prize drawings by completing a quiz.
