DECATUR The East Central Community College Board of Trustees Tuesday officially approved head football coach Terry Underwood to be the new Athletics Director.
Underwood will succeed outgoing women's basketball coach Sammy Pace, who retired last week after successfully leading the program for 16 years. Pace's resignation was accepted by the board on Tuesday, as well.
Under Pace, the Lady Warriors visited the National Junior College Tournament twice. He compiled a 22-7 record this season.
Pace's resignation is effective June 30, 2001.
Underwood will continue his football coaching duties. He has led the Warrior gridiron program for three years, arriving as an assistant in 1995 under then-coach Willie Coats.
In Pace's stead, assistant coach Brad Hodge has been named interim women's coach. Hodge has served the past two seasons as an assistant on both the men's and women's teams.
Before coming to East Central, Hodge previously served as an assistant men's basketball coach under Mike Vining at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
