QUITMAN It may be next weekend before the Meridian Southern rail line between Quitman and Waynesboro can be used again.
The track gave way at about 5 p.m. Friday just north of DeSoto when a culvert broke while a train was passing through. The last seven cars derailed and two turned over.
The northbound train was pulling 27 cars, loaded with lumber. The remaining cars continued on to Quitman.
Harper said there were no injuries. No hazardous materials were on the train.
