Northeast girls rally to upset Neshoba

From the mountain top to the valley can be a quick trip.
Coach Bill Smith and the Neshoba Central Lady Rockets know the feeling.
After defeating third-ranked Meridian and 10th-ranked Columbus last week, Neshoba fell to the visiting Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans 46-43 Tuesday night.
In the first half, Neshoba's press shook the Lady Trojans up, but in the second half Northeast came out with more confidence.
Neshoba held the lead until Northeast tied it with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter. The Lady Trojans took the lead at the 4:28 mark on a Tiffany Portis jumper. Northeast went into the fourth with a 36-34 advantage.
The Lady Trojans outscored Neshoba 10-9 in the final period to clinch the win.
Senior point guard, Tausha Evans, who fouled out with 2:27 remaining, led Neshoba with 15 points, 12 of which came in the first half. Miranda Rosar added 12 for the Lady Rockets.
Dorecious Powe led Northeast with 15 points, nine of which came in the second half. Quin Jackson scored 11 and Tiffany Portis scored nine in the second half for the Lady Trojans, 19-8.
Neshoba will host West Point Friday, while Northeast travels to Northeast Jones.
Neshoba boys 98, Northeast 88: The Rockets hit 7-of-8 three-pointers, 12-of-19 two point field goals and 10-of-15 free throws to take a 55-37 half-time lead. In a fairly physical game between the two teams, 77 free throws were shot and seven players fouled out.
The Rockets had five players in double figures, while Northeast had four.
Tawon Walker led Neshoba with 27 points, Calvin Parker had 18, Chris Owen 17, Desmond Jones 16 and Landon Byars 14.
Northeast was led by Jimmy Kelly with 21 points, Stephen Dyess with 17, Theo Naylor with 14 and De'Kenno Winston with 10.
Neshoba improves to 15-10, while Northeast falls to 14-11.
