Sela Ward, Lauderdale native and two-time Emmy Award winning actress, won global recognition Sunday night for her TV role as a divorced mother re-entering the dating world.
Ward won a Golden Globe as Best Actress in a TV drama series for ABC's Once and Again,'' where she plays the role of Lily Manning. The award was made by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
Ward, who maintains strong community ties to Meridian and Lauderdale County, has won Best Actress Emmy awards for the "Once and Again" role and for her role as Teddy on the NBC-TV series, "Sisters."
An alumnus of Meridian Community College and a 1977 graduate of the University of Alabama where she majored in art and advertising Ward is the driving force behind Hope for Children, a project to develop a home for abused and neglected children in Meridian. She was instrumental in securing funding from the Kentucky Fried Chicken Corporation, the Meridian-based Riley Foundation and the Screen Actors Guild Foundation.
Ward has also played another key community role refurbishing and renovating the Grand Opera House in Meridian.
