The Belgreen Bulldogs went to Vina to take on the Red Devils wanting to get off to a fast start and they did just that on their way to an 85-39 win over their area and Franklin County rivals.

The large margin of victory allowed eleven Bulldogs and nine Red Devils to get into the scoring column.

Chase Landers of Belgreen led all scorers with 18 points on the night. Vina’s leading scorer was Seth Brewer with 16 points.

The first quarter belonged to Belgreen as the Bulldogs outscored Vina 24-6. Eight Belgreen players scored in the opening quarter led by Dustin Smith’s seven points in the period.

In the second, Chase Landers came alive picking up 10 points in the quarter. Seth Brewer tried to get things going under the basket for Vina with eight of his points coming in the first half, but it just wasn’t enough.

Belgreen led by 25 at the half and stretched the margin to 48 at the end of the third quarter.

Vina did manage to outscore the Bulldogs by two in the final period, 8-6.

Chase Landers led the way for Belgreen with 18 points. Dustin Smith (16) and Jared Mitchell (10) also scored in double figures.

Dakota Davis and Ben Inman had eight points each. Abram Thorn (7), Franky Wallace (7), Josh DeVaney (5), Will Barnwell (2), Drew Wills (2) and Zach Wilkinson (2) all scored for Belgreen.

For Vina, Brewer was followed by Ryder Steele (5), Dakota Mcalister (4), Marcus Goodway (3), Eddie Dees (3), Joseph Emerson (2), Andrew Hester (2), Bradley Duncan (2) and Daniel Wooten (2).

Belgreen head coach Patrick Odom felt his team gained a lot by picking up the win while also getting to play a lot of players who got experience.

“It was another good area win,” Odom said.

“I told our guys before the game that every area game is of equal value. I thought we came out and played well and took control of the game early and we were able to play a lot of guys.”
