Red Bay Museum open this Sunday

RB-Museum

As part of the Red Bay Downtown Businesses Christmas Open House, the Red Bay Museum will be open from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 1.

The museum has recreated several Red Bay landmarks including the Red Bay Hotel lobby, Red Bay Depot, the drugstore with its soda fountain, general merchandise stores, early bank, medical clinic, churches and military displays, and many others all with the original items from each landmark.

Also included is a display on Tammy Wynette, including many personal and professional items from her career donated by friends and family members.

New to the museum is the Native American display with items on loan from the University of Alabama Museum in Moundville as well as items recovered from digs at Cypress Cove Farms donated by Rep. Johnny Mack Morrow.

Unique gift items are also available at the museum that would make perfect Christmas gifts, especially for those out of town friends and relatives. These include the Red Bay History Book by former congressman Carl Elliott, Red Bay afghans, Alabama Dirt Shirts (dyed naturally with red clay, which Red Bay is named for), Red Bay mugs, postcards, books by local authors, and Red Bay ornaments, which this year’s ornament is the Red Bay Garment/Blue Bell Building. Recently added are books by the late Claude Gentry who wrote books on Freedom Hills, some with characters based on local people.
