2 denied parole
MONTGOMERY — Parole has been denied for two inmates serving prison sentences for Franklin County crimes, according to an update from the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles.
The two inmates had parole hearings the week of July 20-24, but board decisions cannot be published until they are recorded, which can take several days.
The two are:
• Shannon Dale Gargis, 39, is serving two 20-year sentences for convictions in 2018 of manslaughter rand aggravated child abuse, according to Alabama Department of Corrections records.
The sentences are to be served consecutively for a total of 40 years, according to corrections records.
Gargis was charged with capital murder of a child under 14 but was convicted of manslaughter and aggravated child abuse, according to court records.
He has served for 10 years, 4 months and 2 days, according to corrections records.
• Douglas Allen Brown, 58, is serving a 20-year sentence for discharging a gun into an occupied building in Colbert County, according to records. He has two prior convictions for the same charge in Lawrence County.
Brown has served 10 years, 9 months and 22 days.
