UNA ups tuition $300 for undergrads
FLORENCE — The University of North Alabama Board of Trustees is considering a tuition and fee schedule Friday that will increase undergraduate costs by $300 across the board for the 2026-27 academic year.
The board’s Finance, Facilities and Personnel Committee on Thursday unanimously approved recommending the new rates to the trustees at the Friday morning meeting. The increase would be a total of $300 for fall and spring semesters.
Committee Chair Marty Abroms said the changes would amount to an increase between 2.2% to 2.41%.
He said that $300 applies for all undergraduate students taking 12 to 18 hours per semester. Full-time students take at least 12 hours per semester.
“It’s been since the fall semester of 2022 since we actually changed tuition costs,” Abroms said.
The trustees approved a 5% tuition increase for the 2022 school year, but they increased fees $15 per credit hour in 2025. That was two years after UNA introduced a new fee structure.
The committee’s recommendation is designed to make it easier for students to understand how much they should expect to pay in tuition and fees.
Tuition costs for two semesters currently are $10,200 for undergraduate students. That would increase to $10,500.
The recommendation calls for graduate tuition to remain unchanged at $495 per hour and doctoral tuition to stay the same at $550 per hour.
Overall combined in-state undergraduate tuition and fee costs for a year would include:
• $12,750 for the College of Education and Human Sciences and College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering. That includes a fee of $75 per credit hour.
• $13,650 for the Sanders College of Business and Technology. That includes a fee of $105 per hour.
• $13,950 for the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions. That includes a fee of $115 per hour.
“I’m really pleased, with what inflation has been historically and certainly this year, we’ve able to keep this in the 2.2% to 2.4% range,” Abroms said.
Out-of-state tuition is double the amount of in-state tuition and also will increase by $300 for the year. That amounts to $21,000 per year.
