Tharptown pounds 16 hits in 16-2 win

Softball action was limited during spring break.

Phil Campbell beat Haleyville 9-7 and Tharptown picked up a

16-2 win over Brilliant.

Belgreen traveled to Gulf Shores to compete in the Pleasure Island Showdown tournament held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Tharptown scored 16 runs on 16 hits, including eight extra base hits. Senior Alyssa Fischer had two home runs and a double, four RBIs, and scored four runs. Lexxi Little homered and had a double. Paisleigh Carr and Sophie Waldrep doubled, and Gabi Johnson tripled.

Cadence Kennedy, Fischer, Little, and Johnson all had three-hit games.

Kennedy got the win in the circle striking out 11.

Haleyville 9 Phil Campbell 7

Haleyville jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Phil Campbell in the first inning and led 5-2 after two innings. The Bobcats kept battling back, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. The Lions reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth 6-5. After that it was all Phil Campbell. The Bobcats took a 7-6 lead in the sixth and extended that lead to 9-6 in the seventh.

Bella Welch, Georgia Motes and Tinlee Parker all doubled in the game. Kylie Fugate and Motes each had a three hit game. Chaley Bullington had two hits.

Parker got the win allowing five hits and striking out one.

Mackinley Hogan and Shaylyn Bryant scored for Belgreen (11-9-1) in the Gulf Shores’ tournament on Friday.

Siegel (Tenn.) 5 Belgreen 1

McKinley Hogan tripled home the run for Belgreen (11-8-1) in the first inning of Friday’s game.

Belgreen 16

Franklin Monroe (Ohio) 1

Elle Pounders drove in three runs, and Randi Terry and Caleigh Lawson drove in two each to spark the Bulldogs (11-7-1) to a victory on Friday. Lilianna Willingham scored three times.

Wicksburg 6 Belgreen 3

Bryn Scott scored twice and Mackinley Hogan also reached base twice for Belgreen (10-7-1) in Thursday’s loss at Gulf Shores.

Baker 14 Belgreen 0

Belgreen (10-6-1) finished with four hits and committed eight errors leading to 10 unearned runs in Thursday’s loss in Gulf Shores.

Brilliant 8-18 Vina 5-0

Hadlee Sanderson homered, scored six times and had four RBIs in two games for the Tigers (5-4), plus pitched a three-inning no-hitter in Game 2 on Thursday. Braxtyn Quinn homered, had two RBIs and scored twice for the Red Devils (8-14).
