RHS softball wins 5 of 9
The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers split a pair of area games last week and won 2 of 4 games in the Pelham Spring Break Bash.
RHS went to West Point for an area game and defeated the Lady Warriors 2-1 in an extrainning thriller. The Lady Tigers scored one run in the third and another in the top of the eighth to get the win. The lone West Point run came during the sixth inning.
Russellville’s Bri McCulloch and Blevyn Sappington tripled and Taitum Bishop doubled during the win. McCulloch also had one RBI. Bishop pitched five innings and Kaylee Suggs went three innings in the circle.
The Golden Tigers fell to 1-1 in area play when Lawrence County came to RHS and won 17-1. Russellville got hits from Ticelee Gholston, Khristyan Huerta, Sappington and Sadie Odom. Huerta had the lone RBI for Russellville.
Bishop and Suggs were the RHS pitchers.
Russellville traveled to Tharptown and swept a doubleheader on March 26. RHS took game one, 10-4. Gholston went 4-for-4 with two RBIs. McCulloch hit two home runs and Bishop added one for the Lady Tigers.
RHS then defeated Tharptown 13-3 in game two. McCulloch had three hits, including two doubles to lead the team. Suggs pitched a complete game to get the win.
In the Pelham Spring Break Bash on March 27-28 RHS went 2-2 to bring its overall record on the season to 11-9.
Russellville fell to Athens 10-3 to start play in Pelham. RHS hits were by McCulloch, Bishop, Huerta and Sappington while Bishop and Huerta had the RBIs.
The Golden Tigers defeated Brooks 10-1 in the second game of the day. McCulloch, Huerta and Chloe James were hit leaders with two each. McCulloch and Huerta had two RBIs apiece to lead the team. Suggs pitched all five innings.
Russellville took the field on Saturday and got a 7-6 victory over Holtville High School. Gholston and Suggs led RHS with two hits each. Suggs also led the team with two RBIs. Bishop went 2.2 innings in the circle and Suggs pitched 1.1 innings during the four-inning contest.
Russellville finished the Spring Break Bash with a 5-4 loss to Corner on Saturday. Bishop and Suggs had two hits each with Bishop collecting two doubles. Bishop had two RBIs and shared the pitching duties with Suggs.
