City OKs $3,260 for new field house floor
RED BAY — The city council will use $3,260 from its Educational Fund to help cover the cost of a new floor for the high school’s field house.
Principal Brady Ramie said the existing floor has worn down over time from weightlifting and years of use. He said the city’s contribution will go toward an overall project he estimated would cost $20,000.
“It’s definitely going to be a tremendous upgrade, something that athletes and the community can take some pride in,” Ramie said.
Head football coach Tyler Jeffries said the field house has been in use since 2004. He said the new surface will be a rubber floor featuring the school logo in the middle along with the words “Red Bay Tigers.”
He said school fundraisers and an anonymous donor also helped support the project.
“It’s definitely much needed, and something we’ve been talking about for a couple of years now,” Ramie said.
Jeffries said he did not yet have a firm installation date.
