RHS celebrates senior night with 2 wins

Russellville High celebrated senior night with wins over the Haleyville Lions.

The girls got things off to a positive start with a 61-40 victory over the Lady Lions. The Lady Golden Tigers led 15-9 after one quarter of play and held a 30-22 advantage at the halftime break. RHS was ahead 55-28 going into the game’s final quarter.

Ella Copeland continued her outstanding season by leading Russellville with 18 points. Angeleah Smith also scored in double figures with 12. Sadie Odom followed with nine and Laila Hill scored eight. Alexia Groce had six points and Blevyn Sappington scored four. Elizabeth Davis and Bella Malone had two points each.

Hill is the only senior on head coach Jermaine Groce’s RHS team this season.

Russellville then recognized Malaki Groce, Gavin McDaniel, Parker Odom and Shawn Taylor, the seniors on head coach Patrick Odom’s team, before the Golden Tigers defeated Haleyville, 56-41 in the boys’ game.

RHS jumped to a 17-12 first quarter lead, and the Golden Tigers were up 31-25 after two periods. Russellville outscored Haleyville 13-9 during the third period and 12-7 in the fourth to get the victory.

Sir Williams led the Golden Tigers with 20 points. Tripp Cleveland and Malaki Groce had 10 points each. Parker Odom scored nine and Gavin McDaniel scored three. Daniel Aycock and Shawn Taylor had two points each.

Versus Hamilton

Russellville traveled to Hamilton High School the following evening. The Lady Golden Tigers got a 67-35 win over the Lady Aggies before the RHS boys lost to Hamilton by a 56-43 score.

Copeland led the Lady Tigers with 25 points, and Smith scored 12. Sappington and Sadie Odom scored seven each, and Hill had four. Collins Odom and Malone had three points apiece while Kaylee Suggs, Aleya Lane and Charley Johnson scored two points each.

The RHS girls are now 15-11 on the season.
