Late surge lifts Red Bay to win
The Red Bay Tigers used a balanced offensive attack and a massive final frame to outlast the Hubbertville Lions, 73-68.
Hubbertville took a 20-16 lead after the first quarter, but Red Bay roared back with a 24-point second quarter to take the halftime advantage. After a quiet third quarter that saw the Lions reclaim some momentum, the Tigers turned to their interior presence to seal the victory.
Khalil Luster was the star of the night, leading all scorers with 25 points. Luster dominated the paint, scoring 11 of his points in the fourth quarter alone while shooting 5-for-7 from the charity stripe.
Davo Colburn provided the outside threat, netting 11 points fueled by three-pointers in the first, second, and fourth quarters.
Jaxson Vinson added 10 points in the paint, while Bryant Harris contributed nine points, all coming from beyond the arc. Conner Nichols (7) hit a clutch three-pointer and two free throws in the final period, supported by Landon Lewey (6) and Dalton Lowrey (5) to round out the scoring.
Lady Tigers
The Red Bay varsity girls faced a stiff challenge from Hamilton, Mississippi, ultimately pulling away for a 60-55 victory.
The Lady Tigers found themselves in a 20-12 hole after the first quarter as the Hamilton offense started hot. However, the Red Bay defense locked down in the second period, holding Hamilton to just seven points. The real turning point came in the third quarter where Red Bay exploded for 21 points to take control of the game.
Kamryn Kuykendall took over the game when it mattered most, finishing with a teamhigh 22 points. Most impressively, 16 of those points came during her dominant second-half performance. Katlyn Lindley provided the early spark, scoring 10 of her 14 points in the first half to keep the Lady Tigers within striking distance.
Other key contributions came from DaRilee Colburn (9), Hadley Griffin (5), Raigan Henson (4), Julianna Eaton and Gracie Edgmon, 3 points each, and Mckenna Wooten (1).
