Grant is sought to resurface Hwy. 23
RUSSELLVILLE — The FranklinCountyCommission plans to seek a Rebuild Alabama grant to resurface a section of Highway 23 between Alabama 24 and Alabama 247.
County officials discussed the application during the Jan. 20 meeting.
“Approximately $50,000 in materials and about three weeks of labor were spent maintaining that stretch of Highway 23,” County Administrator Leah Mansell said.
Mansell said the estimated cost of the resurfacing project is $450,000.
“We’re asking for $350,000 through Rebuild Alabama, and the county will provide a $100,000 match,” she said. “The traffic counts, the detour traffic, the wear from the AL-247 closure — all of those things strengthen it [the grant application].”
The deadline for submitting Rebuild Alabama applications is Feb. 20.
“We should hear back by the end of March,” Mansell said. “If it’s approved, we’re looking at August for resurfacing.”
