Belgreen secures 2 nail-biting wins

Fresh off a Franklin County Tournament championship, the Belgreen Bulldogs girls secured a pair of nail-biting victories recently, showing poise in tight situations to defeat both Rogers and Haleyville by a combined margin of only four points.

Belgreen 54, Rogers 51 In a back-and-forth contest against the Rogers Pirates, Belgreen relied on a strong start and balanced scoring to hold on for a threepoint win. The Bulldogs established an early rhythm, leading 30–24 at halftime. Rogers mounted a comeback in the third quarter to pull within three, but Belgreen’s 14-point fourth quarter was enough to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs were paced by Makenna Fisher and Jemma Moore, who both scored 15 points. Moore’s impact was felt early as she knocked down three threepointers in the opening period.

Carson Hovater added seven points, while Randi Terry finished with five. The scoring was rounded out by Isabella Tate and Alayna Tate with three points each, and Lily Green, Mackinley Hogan, and Lillianna Willingham, who all contributed two points to the winning effort.

Belgreen 43, Haleyville 42 Belgreen’s resilience was on full display against Haleyville as the Bulldogs overcame a late deficit to win by a single point.

After a slow third quarter where they managed only five points, the Bulldogs trailed entering the final frame. However, a 15-point explosion in the fourth quarter allowed them to leapfrog the Lions just as time expired.

Terry was the hero of the comeback, scoring 10 points total with seven of those coming during the critical fourth-quarter run.

Moore also reached double digits with 10 points, once again showcasing her range with three threepointers in the first quarter. Hovater chipped in seven points, followed by Marlie Terry with six and Green with four. Willingham added three points, Tate scored two, and Fisher contributed a free throw to round out the box score.
