Vina seniors tour NWSCC campuses
VINA — Vina High School seniors toured the Phil Campbell and Muscle Shoals campuses of Northwest Shoals Community College as part of career planning activities organized through the school counseling office. Students observed programs in cosmetology, machining, electrical work and welding, and visited health science facilities at the Muscle Shoals campus.
Vina High School Counselor Sharon Sparks said the visit allowed students to compare offerings at the two campuses and see how some programs differ by location.
Senior Harleigh Ridge spent part of the visit in a health-science lab, where she listened to the heartbeat of an infantsized mannequin.
“It was really interesting,” Ridge said, “and nursing is definitely something I want to learn in the future.”
Career coaches visited Vina this month to conduct career assessments with students in grades nine through 11. Vina seniors are scheduled to tour the University of North Alabama on Feb. 26, and mock interviews with career coaches are planned for later this month.
