RHS girls improve to 12-9 on season

Russellville High School had games with Haleyville, Fairview and West Point last week. The RHS girls went 2-1 while the boys were 1-2 on the week.

Russellville traveled to Haleyville and the Lady Golden Tigers won by the score of 83-58. RHS led 25-12 to start the game, and the Lady Tigers were ahead 35-26 at the half before growing the lead to 15 after three quarters.

Ella Copeland led RHS with 33 points and Laila Hill scored 14. Sadie Odom and Blevyn Sappington had 12 points each, and Angeleah Smith added seven. Collins Odom and Alexia Groce scored two apiece and Aleya Lane had one point.

In the boys’ game, Russellville topped Haleyville, 61-45. RHS led 18-5 at the end of the first quarter and 29-14 at the halftime break.

Sir Williams had 28 points for Russellville and Tripp Cleveland scored 12. Parker Odom added seven while Malaki Groce and Daniel Aycock had six points each. Noah Smith had two points for the Golden Tigers.

Russellville hosted the Fairview Aggies on Jan. 13 and the Lady Tigers won, 66-52.

RHS led 33-25 at the half and 48-37 after three quarters of action. Copeland led Russellville with 26 points. Sadie Odom added 15 and Hill had 10. Smith scored seven, Elizabeth Davis and Groce had three each, and Bella Malone scored two points.

Fairview defeated Russellville in the boys’ game by a final score of 45-26. The Aggies were ahead 12-6 at the end of the first quarter and 20-11 at the half.

Cleveland had the most points for RHS with eight. Aycock scored six, Odom had five, and Braxton Duncan added three. Groce and Williams had two points each for the Golden Tigers.

Russellville traveled to West Point on Jan. 16 to battle the Warriors in area play. The RHS girls fell to the talented WPHS team by a score of 66-49.

Copeland had 29 points to lead Russellville. Hill scored eight while Sappington and Sadie Odom had three points apiece. Samantha Wilson, Groce and Malone had two points each.

West Point took the boys’ game by a final score of 54-29. T Russellville’s girls are now 12-9 on the season and 1-2 in the area. The Golden Tigers are now 0-3 in Class 5A Area 15 games and 4-14 overall.
