Hill signs with NWSCC for volleyball

Russellville High School volleyball standout Laila Hill made her plans to join the Northwest Shoals Community College Patriots official during a signing ceremony held on Jan. 14.

Hill was a senior on this year’s RHS team which set a school record for wins in a season. A top hitter on the squad, Hill had 450 kills this year and she collected 750 kills during her years on the varsity as a Golden Tiger.

“Today means so much to me because all my friends, family and coaches are here,” Hill said at the signing ceremony. “I’m very excited to go play at the next level and to see what Northwest Shoals holds for me.”

Hill said she really likes being on the court with her teammates and winning. As one of the leaders on this year’s team, Hill credited head coach Madison Lamon for building a winning attitude, which was helpful for her and the entire team.

“I just love her so much and she’s grown from the first time I saw her when she was in seventh grade until her senior year,” Lamon said. “She’s improved tremendously and she’s so fun to be around. She’s funny, goofy and easy to get along with and I’m just really proud of her.”

By playing at NWSCC for head coach Susie Tverberg as a member of the Patriots, Hill will be close by to serve as a good example for the players still at RHS.

“She’s going to be close to home and we’re going to be able to go watch her and take the girls to go watch her and see how much she’s improved,” Lamon said. “I know it’s going to be new for her, but I think she’s going to do very well.”
