Russellville PD honors 10 for achievements
RUSSELLVILLE — Five members of the Russellville Police Department were honored last week at the annual Christmas dinner and awards banquet at Hilltop Diner.
Sgt. Carlos Lucas and Officer Kyle Knight received the Life Saving Award.
Chief Chris Hargett said the award reflects situations where officers rely on training and quick action to help someone in crisis.

“It really shows what type of people they are to be able to fall back on the training and do the things that actually save a life,” Hargett said. “That is basically the reason you get into this job — to help people.”
Sgt. Derek Henderson received recognition as Officer of the Year. He also received the Physical Fitness Award and one of the department’s Attendance Awards.

The Physical Fitness Award recognizes officers who voluntarily meet physical agility standards beyond initial academy requirements. Hargett said maintaining fitness supports both officer safety and public safety.
Hargett said Henderson consistently represents the department in a positive way and takes part in many activities beyond his regular duties.
Erin Gist received the Dispatcher of the Year award. Hargett said Gist stood out for her growth and improvement over time.

Chaplain Bobby Brown received a Distinguished Service Award.
Hargett said Brown has served the department for decades and is regularly present to support officers, particularly during difficult or emotional situations.
“If you just came to the office, you would think he was a full-time employee,” Hargett said. “He’s there every day to assist us in any way.”
The department presented a Certificate of Commendation to Officer Hunter Swinney. Hargett said the award is for initiative that helped investigators in a case.

The department presented attendance awards to Knight, Henderson, Swinney, Lt. Michael Miller, Sgt. Antonio Melecio, Officer Randy Mancell, and Officer Jordan Hammond.
“We’re a young department, growing and learning as we go,” Hargett said. “We’ve got some really good guys and gals.”
