Phil Campbell’s Elliott hits 1,000th career point

The Phil Campbell Bobcats kicked off the 2026 calendar year in style Saturday night, securing a decisive 54-37 victory over the visiting Belgreen Bulldogs. The night was highlighted not just by the win, but by a career milestone for one of the Bobcats’ players.

Junior guard Austin Elliott intercepted a pass for a steal and drove the length of the floor for a layup, marking his 1,000th career point as a varsity basketball player.

Elliott proved exactly why he reached that milestone so early in his varsity career, leading all scorers with a dominant 25-point performance. His offensive output provided the engine for a Phil Campbell team that stayed in control from the opening tip to the final buzzer.

The Bobcats established their rhythm early, outscoring the Bulldogs 15-11 in the first frame. The momentum surged in the second quarter as the Bobcats poured in 18 points.

Adding to Elliott’s milestone was the varsity debut of ninth-grader Miles Duboise, who recently moved up to the team from East Franklin after leading the Rebels to the Franklin County Junior High Tournament championship. Duboise made an immediate impact, draining a three-pointer early in the second quarter to help extend the lead and on the defensive end with two blocked shots.

Phil Campbell went into the halftime break with a comfortable 33-20 advantage and never looked back, holding the Bulldogs to just seven points in the third quarter to effectively seal the win.

Brady Williams goes in for layup at Belgreen.

The Bobcats’ balanced attack saw scoring contributions from across the roster. Behind Elliott’s 25 points, Logan Cooper added seven, while Hagen Raper finished with six. Madden Welch and Duboise each chipped in five points, followed by two-point efforts from Chandler Benford, Bailey Nix, and Brady Williams.

For Belgreen, Rush Berryman led the way with nine points, followed closely by Jonathan Mendoza with eight. Jake Dill contributed seven points and Aaron Rubido finished with six. Rounding out the Bulldogs’ scoring were Chris Bentley and Easton Mitchell with three points apiece, and Jaxon Wood with one.
