Elliott powers Phil Campbell to big week
Austin Elliott scored 82 points over three games last week to help the Bobcats to two wins. Elliott scored 25 points in an 88-33 win over Shoals Christian and 24 points in a 73-25 win over Cherokee. His biggest output, however, came in an 80-72 overtime loss to Lexington, where he dropped 33 points.
In the win over Shoals Christian, Phil Campbell put the game away early on taking a 23-11 first quarter lead and extending the lead to 49-13 at the half.
Madden Welch followed Elliott in scoring with 18 points and Bailey Nix added 11 points. Rounding out the scoring for the Bobcats were Brady Williams with nine, Jeremiah Smith with eight, Logan Cooper with five, Jackson Cooper with four, Hagen Raper with four, Hayston Scott with three, and Chandler Benford with two.
In the win over Cherokee, Phil Campbell led the Indians 16-10 at the end of the first quarter and 33-17 at halftime. The Bobcats put the game away with a 24-6 third quarter to take a 57-23 lead.
Welch again followed Elliott with 16 points and Benford added 10 points. Rounding out the scoring for Phil Campbell was Williams with seven points, Raper with seven points, Scott with five points, Nix with three points, and Smith with one point.
Phil Campbell staged a fourth quarter comeback against Lexington that sent the game into overtime, but the Golden Bears were able to outlast the traveling Bobcats.
Phil Campbell led Lexington 15-13 at the end of the first quarter but trailed 30-28 at halftime. The Golden Bears took a 48-40 lead in the third quarter, but the Bobcats outscored Lexington 27-19 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it to overtime. Lexington outscored Phil Campbell 13-5 in the overtime period.
Welch scored 20 points for the Bobcats. Bailey Nix added seven points. Scott and Williams added three points each. Cooper, Benford and Raper scored two points each.
