Russellville girls tip off new season with 2 wins

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers are off to a 2-2 start under the leadership of head coach Jermaine Groce.

RHS tipped off the season with a 67-56 win over Decatur High School.

Ella Copeland led the Lady Tigers with 27 points. Angeleah Smith added 24 and Laila Hill also scored in double figures with 11 points. Sadie Odom and Bella Malone had two points each, and Alexia Groce scored one point for RHS.

Kimora Bailey was Decatur’s top-scorer with 14 points.

Next for Russellville was a trip to Belmont High School in Mississippi for games versus Biggersville and Hickory Flatt.

RHS fell to Biggersville by a final score of 70-62. Smith led the Lady Tigers with 22 points and Copeland followed closely with 20. Hill added eight points, Malone scored 7, Elizabeth Davis had three, and Odom scored two.

RHS then defeated Hickory Flatt, 74-25. The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 23-4 first quarter lead and held a 51-15 advantage at the half.

Smith led Russellville with 17 points and Copeland added 16. Hill scored 13 and Davis finished the game with 10 points. Collins Odom scored eight while Sadie Odom and Hayleigh Chaney had three points each. Lauryn Johnson and Charley Johnson had two points apiece for RHS.

Priceville High School was the site for Russellville’s game on Friday night versus Buckhorn. The Lady Tigers fell to BHS 70-54 in the Priceville Classic.

Buckhorn led 18-16 after the first quarter of play and held a 33-28 lead at the half. Buckhorn then used a strong second half to pull away.

Copeland was Russellville’s top-scorer with 23 points. Smith and Hill had 11 points each, Davis scored five, Groce added three, and Sadie Odom scored one point.
