Belgreen volleyball finishes week with mixed results

The Belgreen Bulldogs (12-10) had a busy week on the volleyball court, competing in two area matchups and a tri-match, finishing with a 2-2 record for the week.

The Bulldogs showed resilience and strong individual performances but came up short in key area games.

On Monday, the Bulldogs battled Mars Hill in a thrilling five-set match at home. Belgreen started strong, taking the first set 25-23, but Mars Hill answered back to win the second. The Bulldogs clawed back to win the third set, but couldn’t close out the victory, ultimately falling 3-2 (25-23, 13-25, 25-20, 12-25, 11-15).

Leading the charge for Belgreen was Carson Hovater with 12 kills, while Lilliana Willingham had a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs. Bryn Scott was a defensive powerhouse with 36 digs, and Alayna Tate set up her teammates with 30 assists and added 10 digs.

The following day, Belgreen traveled to Covenant Christian for another area match. The Bulldogs won the first set 25-20 but then dropped the next three, losing the match 3-1 (25-20, 15-25, 18-25, 16-25).

Hovater once again led the offense with 11 kills and 5 digs. Randi Terry was a key contributor with 9 kills and 9 digs, and Tate had 16 assists and 10 digs. Willingham added 4 kills and 15 digs, while Scott continued her strong defensive play with 17 digs.

The Bulldogs wrapped up their week on Thursday with a tri-match against Colbert Heights and Waterloo. Belgreen started the day with a hardfought win over Colbert Heights, winning in three sets (23-25, 27-25, 18-16).

Tate was a standout performer with 18 assists and 14 digs, and Willingham had 17 digs and 5 kills. Hovater and Terry added 9 and 8 kills, respectively, and Scott had 17 digs.
