Historic night for Belgreen football

Bulldogs dominate Wildcats 34-0 in homecoming win

History was made Friday night at Belgreen High School as the Bulldogs not only celebrated their first-ever football homecoming, but also delivered a commanding 34-0 shutout victory over the Tharptown Wildcats to improve to 3-0 on the young season.

For decades, homecoming at Belgreen was a winter tradition tied to basketball with no parade or football festivities to mark the occasion. But with the school’s football program entering its second varsity season, Belgreen students, alumni, and the community rallied together to establish new traditions that will no doubt carry forward for years to come.

The day began with the school’s first-ever homecoming parade, featuring floats, cheerleaders, and a wave of blue-and-white pride rolling through town.

Festivities continued at halftime of the football game when senior Aubryn Scott, escorted by her father Chris Scott, was crowned Belgreen’s Homecoming Queen by Principal Megean Berryman. The crowning took place against the backdrop of a packed stadium filled with excitement and pride in a program that is quickly finding its footing.

On the field, the Bulldogs wasted no time setting the tone. After trading fumbles early, Belgreen struck first on a 10-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Their defense proved just as sharp, forcing a turnover on downs before the end of the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Bulldogs break the game open. A bruising 5-yard touchdown run pushed the lead to 13-0, followed shortly by a 40-yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion to make it 21-0.

Another forced fumble recovery set up Belgreen for a goal-line plunge, extending the lead to 27-0 before halftime.

The Bulldogs never looked back, adding one more score in the second half to cap off the dominant 34-0 victory. Their defense held strong all night, forcing multiple fumbles and stopping Tharptown twice on fourth down.
