Lady Golden Tigers’ volleyball team adds 4 wins during hot streak

Russellville’s volleyball team had a busy week on the court as the Lady Golden Tigers continued their winning start to the 2025 season.

RHS welcomed East Lawrence and Marion County on Aug. 25 for the first home matches of the year and the Lady Golden Tigers defeated both teams.

RHS defeated East Lawrence 2-1 by scores of 26-24, 20-25 and 15-10. Later that evening, RHS defeated Marion County 2-0 by scores of 25-15 and 25-16.

Against East Lawrence, Fatima Ramirez had 13 assists and 11 digs. Blevyn Sappington added five kills and nine digs. Bella Malone had five kills.

Alexia Groce totaled five assists and four digs. Laila Hill had 12 kills. Bri McCulloch added 15 digs. Erin Grimes had nine digs and Kaylee Suggs had eight digs.

Russellville’s leaders in the victory over Marion County included Ramirez with 11 assists; Sappington with six kills and four digs; Groce had six assists and four digs; Hill added seven kills; and McCulloch finished with 15 digs.

RHS traveled to Deshler High School the following day. The Lady Golden Tigers improved their record to 11-1 with a 2-1 win over Deshler and a 2-1 victory over Lauderdale County.

Russellville used 25-22, 17-25 and 15-9 scores to defeat Deshler, and 26-24, 17-25 and 15-11 scores to top Lauderdale County.

Against Deshler, leaders included Ramirez with 11 assists and five digs, Sappington with five kills and nine digs, Malone with four digs, Groce with five digs, Hill with nine kills, McCulloch with 24 digs, Grimes with 14 digs, Adaleigh Smith with four digs and Brookelyn Davis with five digs.

Against Lauderdale County, leaders included Ramirez with eight assists and 10 digs, Sappington with 12 kills and 11 digs, Malone with four kills, Groce with 11 assists and 16 digs, Hill with six kills and five digs, McCulloch with 38 digs, Grimes with 13 digs, Davis with four digs, and Suggs with five digs.

Russellville played two matches at the Class 5A Classic hosted by Lawrence County High School on Aug. 28. Priceville High School defeated RHS 2-0 and Guntersville also won 2-0 over the Lady Golden Tigers.
