Traffic stop nets arrest for drugs

RUSSELLVILLE — A Vina man is facing drug trafficking charges after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of a large amount of liquid methamphetamines on Thursday.

A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy was on patrol late Thursday night when he noticed Channing Keith Haithcock, 33, on a motorcycle near Vina. The officer performed a routine traffic stop, according to Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

The deputy searched the motorcycle and found more than 28 grams of liquid meth.

Liquid meth is typically methamphetamines that are dissolved in water to allow for trafficking in a liquid form, according to drugrehab. com. When meth is in a liquid form, it is usually a dark yellow syrupy fluid stored in bottles or containers.

Liquid meth is rarely sold on the streets. It usually is boiled back into a powder for consumption or sale, according to the website.

Haithcock was arrested and charged with drug trafficking.

Oliver said Haithcock is known by the sheriff’s office.

“We’ve had several run-ins with him in the past regarding various alleged crimes,” Oliver said.
