The Russellville High School varsity soccer programs will compete in the AHSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Russellville’s boys won the area for the fifth consecutive season and the Golden Tigers have been boys’ area champs for eight of the last nine years under head coach Trey Stanford.

RHS will host a firstround playoff match.

The boys celebrated senior night with a 5-1 win over Lawrence County on the newly installed artificial surface at the RHS stadium. Then, the Golden Tigers improved to 4-0 in the area with a 5-0 win over Priceville at home.

The Russellville girls, led by first-year head coach Casey Guynn, qualified for the playoffs with a runnerup finish in the area.

The Lady Golden Tigers defeated Lawrence County 5-0 on senior night. Esme Baltazar had two goals and two assists. Additional RHS goals were scored by Dianet Felix Cota, Fatima Ramirez and Kim Mojica. Goalkeeper Lya Ramirez was outstanding on defense throughout the match.

Russellville’s girls finished 2-2 in the area behind Priceville.
