FCSO gets win over RPD in annual basketball game

The third annual basketball game between the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and Russellville Police Department took place Saturday at Russellville’s Bishop Center.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office earned a 78-60 win over the RPD in front of a big crowd of supporters.

Lt. Clint Holcombe from the Franklin County Sheriff’s office played in this year’s game.

“I enjoy the competitive aspect that both teams bring to the game,” he said. “I enjoy how they all seem to enjoy playing against colleagues, which may add to the competitiveness.”

RPD Chief Chris Hargett said while the event was not a fundraiser, they did have a donation box out to help raise money for Jake Tompkins.

Tompkins has been fighting cancer, going back and forth to Houston.

Holcombe said he appreciates how the players can go into the game “amped up and ready to play hard” and then, regardless of the outcome, each side goes back to work as usual.

“Each agency would back the other up in a heartbeat if needed,” Holcombe said. “I hope to see the game expand and grow as time goes on.”
