Phil Campbell Bobcats defeat Russellville Golden Tigers
PHIL CAMPBELL – The Phil Campbell Bobcats defeated their county rivals, the Russellville Golden Tigers, for the second time this season in a thrilling 50-48 victory.
The intense rivalry game came down to the wire with a dramatic finish that sent the Bobcats faithful into a frenzy.
Leela Baker delivered a phenomenal performance, leading all scorers with a staggering 31 points; however, it was her final assist that will be etched in the memories of those in attendance. With the clock ticking down and the score tied, Baker found Mia Ambrosio under the basket, who calmly laid the ball in as the buzzer sounded, securing the dramatic win for Phil Campbell.
The game was a backand- forth battle with both teams trading blows throughout. Russellville’s Ella Copeland put on a strong performance of her own, pouring in 25 points, while Angeleah Smith added 14; however, they were unable to contain Baker and the Bobcats in the crucial final moments.
Along with Baker’s dominant 31 points and Ambrosio’s game-winner, Phil Campbell’s scoring included Macy Hardy with 6 points, Kaylie Motes with 5, Sidda Rogers with 2, and Lily Stewart also contributing 2.
For Russellville, supporting Copeland and Smith’s efforts were Laila Hill with 4 points, Sadie Odom with 2, and both Alexia Groce and Jemma Moore adding 1 point each.
Varsity Boys: Russellville 72, Phil Campbell 34 E.J. King scored 27 points to lead Russellville past Phil Campbell 72-34. King scored 23 of his points in the first half alone.
Russellville led Phil Campbell 22-14 at the end of the first quarter, 42-20 at halftime and 61-30 at the end of the third quarter.
Jah Williams followed King with 11 points. Parker Odom added 8 points, Cam Phinizee 7 points, David Aycock 6 points, Gavin McDaniel 6 points, Sir Williams 4 points, and Rylon Pratt 3 points.
Hayden Wingo led Phil Campbell with 14 points. Austin Elliott added 9 points, Logan Wright 7 points, Madden Welch 2 points and Jeremiah Smith 2 points.
Varsity Girls: Belgreen 61, Covenant Christian 12 The Belgreen Bulldogs dominated Covenant Christian in an area game, winning 61-12.
Belgreen shut out the Eagles 21-0 in the first quarter and led
40-3 at halftime.
Dacota Green led Belgreen with 15 points followed by Carson Hovater with
12 points.
