PCHS student receives American FFA degree

Phil Campbell High School FFA student Colt Thomas received his American FFA degree recently at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

His teacher, Caleb Beason, said Thomas is the first student from Phil Campbell and Franklin County “in a very long time” to receive this honor. Beason said the accomplishment is “a milestone for Colt to receive,” noting it’s one that he’s “so very proud of.”

“He is a fine young man who is continuing his education at Mississippi State University,” Beason added. “His dedication to agriculture and FFA is exemplary.”

As the highest degree achievable in the National FFA Organization, the American FFA Degree is given to acknowledge an FFA member’s dedication to their chapter and state FFA association.

Beason said it demonstrates the effort FFA members apply toward their supervised agricultural experience and the outstanding leadership abilities and community involvement they exhibited through their FFA career. He explained that American FFA degree recipients “show promise for the future and lence.”

Thomas said receiving the honor has been a longtime goal. “Receiving the FFA American Degree is a cation to accomplish,” he explained. “Walking across the stage was a mixture of joy and recollection. I couldn’t help and how amazed I was at how many students, businesses and leaders were involved.”

Thomas said he is as well as “extremely thankful for the help from not only my parents for giving me the opportunity to have involve-Beason, for pushing me to be involved and giving guidance at any time when I needed it throughout this journey.”
