Fall Festival/Haunted Gym

Oct. 3-4

Tharptown Elementary School is holding its annual fall festival Thurs., Oct. 3, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Activities will include games, food, prizes and, from 5:30-8 p.m. (and, on Oct. 4, from 6-9 p.m.), a “haunted gym.” There is no admission for the festival, but tickets for activities are $1 each. The haunted gym admission is $8.

High School Football

Oct. 4

Phil Campbell will be away at Midfield. Russellville will host Fairview. Tharptown will play on the road at Tanner. Vina will host Hackleburg. Games typically begin at 7 p.m. Games are $8 entry for county schools and $10 entry for RHS.

Pumpkin Palooza Kick Off

Oct. 5

Franklin County’s annual Pumpkin Palooza is back with a scarecrow trail for the community to enjoy. The event is coordinated by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, with scarecrows designed and decorated by local businesses and groups. The kickoff will be Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon. Sponsors will be on hand to pass out treats, and there will be character guests, balloon animals and face tattoos. Costumes are welcomed! The trail will stay open through Oct. 19. This year the trail will move from City Lake Park to downtown Russellville.

Roxy Magic Show

Oct. 6

Joe M. Turner, magician, mentalist and motivational speaker, will be making his debut at the Historic Roxy Theatre for a Sunday matinee. This show will feature some of his favorite magical experiences. While it’s designed for teens, adults and seniors, it will be appropriate for all families to attend together. Tickets are $20, and children under 6 get in for $15.

Spirit of Hodges Festival

Oct. 11-12 There will be activities and fun for all ages at the Spirit of Hodges Festival, set for Oct. 11-12 in Hodges Town Park. Live music, arts and food vendors and more will make it a fun family day. Admission is free, and other proceeds support the Hodges Fire and Rescue Department. Spruce Pine Day

Oct. 19

Spruce Pine Day returns Oct. 19 in downtown Spruce Pine. All the action centers on the local community center, with neighborly fun and fellowship for all ages. There will be a Why Knot Show ‘Em Off car show, $20 registration fee for vehicles, starting at 8 a.m., featuring cash prizes, trophies and a 50/50 drawing. The festival will also have live music and a variety of vendors. Admission is free. For more information call 256-460-5276.

Morgan/Shelnutt/ Doss/Harris/Lee Family Reunion

Oct. 20

There will be a family reunion for all descendants of William E. Morgan (1850-1915) and Katie Trapp Morgan Oct. 20 at the Union Community Center in Franklin County, 5988 Highway 93, Russellville, from 10 a.m. until whenever the fun stops. A potluck lunch begins about 12:15 p.m. There will be games for the kids, door prizes and lots of fun for everyone. Bring your family, old pictures and family stories. Everyone is welcome to come.
