Russellville volleyball team ready for play

The Russellville Golden Tigers will be looking for success on the volleyball court this season under the leadership of first-year varsity head coach Madison Lamon.

Lamon moves up to the head coaching position this season, replacing Will White who spent one year leading the Russellville volleyball program. Even though this will be Lamon’s first season as varsity head coach, having served as junior varsity head coach the past three years, she has plenty of experience with the players on the roster at RHS.

“We’ve already built a relationship because I’ve been here for three years now,” Lamon said. “It’s just going to keep building on because I have that respect from them.”

The Russellville team this season will be gaining varsity experience as the season goes along. “I just want them to be really competitive and continue to have a positive attitude and to be open to things changing,” Lamon explained. “Giving their all, that’s what I ask of them. I’m not going to ask them to do something that they can’t do.”

This year’s squad is young with only two seniors on the roster — Haylee Rikard and Kaylee Garner. “I’ve already talked to them about being leaders and holding their other teammates accountable because what they do, others are looking at, and they are like the role models for our junior high. So, what they see them doing, they’re going to follow that lead. I’ve talked to them about doing what’s right, demonstrating and showing things to the younger girls because we want them to do the same thing.”

Look for Bella Malone, Blevyn Sappington and Bri McCulloch to play key roles as ninth-graders who already have experience on the varsity team.

RHS will be competing in AHSAA Class 5A Area 15 with Lawrence County and West Point.
