Belgreen High School volleyball gears up for season

Belgreen volleyball will enter the season with a new head coach, a new classification and a new area.

Alison Terry was hired to replace Julianna Potts as the school’s volleyball coach. Terry comes from Hatton, a school steeped in volleyball history. Terry will lead the Bulldogs into new territory as they move up from Class 1A to Class 2A.  Belgreen will be in the same area as Mars Hill, Covenant Christian and Tharptown.

The Bulldogs finished the 2023 season with a 25-9 record and as Franklin County champions.

Terry said she wants her team to accept the challenge of moving up to Class 2A.

“This year, the greatest expectation is to play at 100% at all times and be intimidated by no one,” said Terry. “We are moving up to 2A, and competition will be a little different. The girls have been super coachable. I see their determination to become the best.”

Being new to Belgreen, Terry has worked hard to study her team and figure out what will give the Bulldogs the best chance to win.

Returning starters include senior Morgan Lauderdale, juniors Alayna Tate, Carson Hovater, Bryn Scott and sophomore Lilliana Willingham. Returning varsity are all juniors — Isabella Tate, Audree West and Laura Beth Seal.

“I’m looking for leadership from our senior, Morgan Lauderdale,” Terry said. “She is an all-around player that contributes in lots of ways. Alayna Tate will be a key setter in our lineup. Carson Hovater and Lilliana Willingham are two strong front row players. Their height will be an advantage for us. Brynn Scott is our experienced libero. She’s very quick and helps defensively. We also have some new players added to the starting lineup that will greatly benefit our team.”
