Phil Campbell football team runs wild on Bulldogs

After dropping two straight games, the Phil Campbell Bobcats used an off week to recuperate and prepare for Carbon Hill. The Bulldogs were no match for Phil Campbell, as the Bobcats beat Carbon Hill 52-13, doing most of their damage on the ground, getting scores from five players.

The Bobcats got things started on the first drive of the game. Isac Hill followed some big runs by Gage Baker with a 35-yard touchdown run to give Phil Campbell a 6-0 lead. Phil Campell recovered a Carbon Hill  fumble at 45 of the Bulldogs’ which set up the Bobcats next score, a 22-yard touchdown run by Baker. Hayston Scott’s two-point conversion run gave Phil Campbell a 14-0 lead.

Phil Campbell secured a defensive stop inside their own 20-yard line. The Bobcats stopped the Bulldogs on third, fourth and one to force a turnover on downs near the end of the first quarter.

Neither team scored for much of the second quarter until Scott picked up a Carbon Hill pass at the 28-yard line and ran it in for the score with 11 seconds remaining in the first half. Baker’s two-point conversion run gave Phil Campbell a 22-0 lead at halftime.

Carbon Hill scored on the opening drive of the second half to close the gap to 22-7 in favor of the Bobcats. Phil Campbell answered the Bulldogs on their next drive with Baker running it in from 38-yards out to make the score 28-7.

Braxton Mayfield recovered a Carbon Hill fumble at the Bulldogs’ 35-yard line. Two plays later, Scott ran it in from 26-yards for the score. Baker added the two-point conversion run to make the score 36-7.

Phil Campell added two more scores. Yohann Vasquez stripped the ball from the quarterback and ran it into the endzone from 53 yards out.

The Bobcats last touchdown came on a Hayden Wingo 51-yard touchdown run.

Phil Campbell will travel to Lauderdale County Friday.

In other games around the county, Red Bay lost to Hackleburg 28-14; Tharptown lost to Cherokee 70-28; and Vina lost to Curry 61-14.
