Enjoy local performances

Are you among those who eagerly awaited the return of this year’s Roxy’s Salute to Broadway? Perhaps you enjoy performing or just watching those who do. Either way, the event not only maintains its popularity over the years, and it’s easy to see why, but it also continues to grow.

There’s always a special energy to having a show at the Roxy, especially a big production like this that involves so many community members – 87 this year. Written and directed by Hillary Malone Hall, it paid tribute to several Broadway hits throughout the decades, featuring well-known and loved songs, as well as plenty of fancy costumes. It’s hard to leave not feeling at least a little better than you did when you arrived.

Another local favorite, the Bay Tree Council for the Performing Arts in Red Bay, recently performed its final production of the season, “Doublewide, Texas,” a hilarious, fast-paced comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten and directed by Scotty Kennedy.

It was performed at the Weatherford Centre in downtown Red Bay. It comes as no surprise that audiences responded with delight yet again, filling the theatre with laughter as they enjoyed the high-energy, engaging show.

If you haven’t been to any of our local school productions, you have been missing out, especially the Russellville High School Musical Theatre shows, and the RMS Performing Arts. I’ve lost track of the variety of interesting performances they’ve presented just in the last year or two. Do yourself a favor and make plans to attend the next time you have the chance.

Most of us enjoy traveling some when we can, and there’s certainly a particular appeal; however, let’s not forget about all the things that are happening right here at home. Franklin County has a lot to offer, and you never know what someone may come up with next.

Whether you enjoy performing, watching or both, attend every show you can or just catch one occasionally, you likely understand very well how special Franklin County entertainment can be – and at the end of the night, there’s no long drive home – well, unless you drove in from out of the area, which many people have done – yet another testament to the quality entertainment we have right here in Franklin County.
