Belgreen girls notch wins over Red Bay, Covenant Christian, Haleyville

The Belgreen varsity girls beat Red Bay, Covenant Christian and Haleyville this past week.

BELGREEN VERSUS RED BAY

A balanced scoring attack helped Begreen outlast Red Bay 63-51 in the inter-county matchup.

Red Bay and Belgreen started out hot, with the Tigers outscoring the Bulldogs 21-19 in the first quarter. Red Bay’s Kaylie Lindley scored 13 in the first quarter; Shelby Nichols tacked on six. Belgreen’s Makenna Fisher scored 11 first-quarter points, and Noelle Willingham added nine.

Belgreen outpaced Red Bay 16-15 in the second quarter to cut the Tiger lead to 36-35 at halftime. Dacota Green scored nine of the Bulldogs’ points, draining two three-pointers.

Belgreen outscored Red Bay 15-11 in the third quarter and 13-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win.

Fisher led Belgreen with 16 points and made four first-half three-pointers. Green and Willingham added 14 points each. Lilliana Willingham scored nine points, and Bryn Scott added eight points. Carson Hovater chipped in two points.

Red Bay’s Lindley led all scorers with 25 points. Nichols added 10 points. Amber Mason finished with seven points, Jaycee Vinson five points and Gretchen Davis four points.

BELGREEN VERSUS COVENANT CHRISTIAN

In Belgreen’s win over Covenant Christian, Green led with 13 points. Lilliana Willingham and Noelle Willingham scored nine points each. Makenna Fisher added eight points, Scott seven points, Makayla Fisher two points and Alayana Tate two points.

BELGREEN VERSUS HALEYVILLE

In Belgreen’s win over Haleyville, the Bulldogs led 16-8 at the end of the first quarter and 33-16 at halftime. Haleyville cut the lead to 44-34 at the end of the third quarter, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth.

Green led Belgreen with 17 points.

Scott followed with 14 points. She made four three-pointers, including three in the first quarter.

Noelle Willingham added 13 points. Makenna Fisher finished with eight points, all coming in the second quarter. Isabella Tate and Makayla Willingham scored two points each.
