Phil Campbell basketball teams split area games with Danville

The Phil Campbell varsity girls have avenged an area loss to the Danville Hawks from earlier in the season, winning 48-41 at home Friday night.

Macy Hardy led the Bobcats with 17 points, scoring seven points in the first and fourth quarter to help Phil Campbell start strong and finish strong.

Phil Campbell led Danville 12-5 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 21-12 at halftime.

Danville came back in the third quarter to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 33-30, but the Bobcats controlled the fourth quarter to get the win.

Hannah Welborn followed Hardy with 10 points. Madison Branch and Layla Baker scored six points each. Allie Herring and Kaylie Motes added four points each. Sidda Rogers finished with one point.

The varsity boys were not so lucky. Also trying to avenge a road loss to Danville, Phil Campbell fought to the end but fell just short, losing 57-55.

Danville appeared to be in control of the game at halftime, leading 21-15. Phil Campbell couldn’t generate any offense in the first half.

That changed in the second half. The Bobcats outscored Danville 20-18 in the third quarter and the fourth quarter – nevertheless falling short of the win.

Quentin Hyde led Phil Campbell with 19 points. Hyde scored 10 points in the first quarter, making a pair of three pointers.

Canaan Clay added 11 points, all coming in the third quarter, making a pair of three pointers and going three-for-three from the free throw line.

Kyle Pace and Cam Habada scored nine points each. Bryant Hyde added four points, and Cole Pace had three points.
